Donald T Gray , VRHS Class of 1944

COLONIE - Donald T. Gray, 97, of Colonie, passed away peacefully at Van Rensselaer Manor, Troy, on Saturday, April 6, 2024, with his daughters by his side. He was born in Buffalo, N.Y., and was the son of the late Thomas and Lillian Schmelzer Gray. He graduated from Van Rensselaer High School, Class of 1944, and from Sampson College. He served his country in the U.S. Navy during World War II, stationed in the South Pacific, and was a pharmacist mate. He was a supervisor at the Albany Post Office for over 30 years before his retirement, and was President of the Supervisors Union for the Post Office. He was an avid piano player, playing for the Beltrone Singers. He was a world traveler, and an avid golfer; and was a member of Bethany Reformed Church in Albany. He was husband of the late Elizabeth Heidrich Gray for 59 years; father of Kathryn (Ed) Kingsley, of Latham, and Nancy Walker, of Cohoes; grandfather of Alexander and Christina; also survived by nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be held on Thursday, April 11, 2024, at 11:00 a.m., at the Dufresne Funeral Home, Inc., 216 Columbia Street, Cohoes, with Rev. Nick TeBordo officiating. Interment will follow in Graceland Cemetery, Albany.
