Thomas James Campbell , VRHS Class of 1969

It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Thomas James Campbell, a beloved husband, father, and friend, who left us peacefully on February 26, 2025, at the age of 73. Born on August 30, 1951, in Albany, Thomas spent his life in Rensselaer, where he became a familiar face and a member of the community. A proud graduate of Rensselaer High School and Hudson Valley Community College, Thomas was more than just an electrician. He had a diverse skill set that included welding and mechanics, working as a self-employed contractor and honing his craft at Herm Ungerman Electric for over 15 years and at CDTA for 25 years. Anyone who knew him would tell you he could fix just about anything, and his incredible work ethic, especially when it came to his home and yard, was something to admire. Thomas had a passion for woodworking and loved to rebuild and create. He enjoyed canoeing in the beautiful Adirondacks and winter camping, always embracing the great outdoors. Music was a big part of his life, too. A true rock enthusiast, he loved playing guitar and found joy in the tunes of the 60s, with The Doors, The Who, and Grateful Dead being some of his favorites. He often shared these moments with his brother Colin, creating memories that will last a lifetime. Thomas leaves behind his beloved wife of 40 years, Nancy (Best) Campbell, and his cherished children, Joshua (Candace) Ian (Brandi), Zacharie (Andrea) and Storie Campbell. Grandfather of Christopher, Jacob, Nataleigh, Emaleigh, Cora, Seth, Eli, Tira, Vada Campbell. Great grandfather of Daniel Campbell. Brother of Susan (Dan) Marvelli, Georgiana (Joe) Schaller, Nancy (Jim) Frederick, Kellie (Frank) Archambeault, Jean (Andris Lapins) Muller and the late Beverly DiThomasasso and Colin (survives, Sharon) Campbell. He was a man of legends, a devoted family man, and an all-around awesome guy-he's truly irreplaceable.
Memorial contributions can be made in Thomas' memory to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital.
