Cheryl (Baird) Smith , VRHS Class of 1977
It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of our beloved wife and mother, Cheryl Smith, who left us peacefully on July 23rd at the age of 66. Cheryl was born in Rensselaer, New York, on January 2, 1959 to Arnold and Marilyn Baird. Cheryl was the heart of our family -- a source of unwavering love, strength, and light. She lived her life with deep compassion, quiet grace, and an endless capacity to give to those she loved. Whether through a warm embrace, a kind word, or her steadfast presence, she made everyone around her feel seen, heard, and cherished. Cheryl is survived by her devoted husband Steve of 46 years, their three daughters and their spouses Jennifer (Brian) Braaksma, Tara (Symbri) Tuttle, Ashley (Eugene) Klebanov, her seven grandchildren - Jameson, Gavin, Remi, Beckett, Collins, Levi, Lennon, and her brothers Alan (Kim) Baird and Brian (Lisa) Baird. She is preceded in death by her parents Arnold and Marilyn Baird and her sisters Eileen Ostrander and Diane Blair. Her family was her greatest joy, and she poured her heart into creating a home filled with laughter, support, and unconditional love. Cheryl had a spirit that was both gentle and strong. She faced life's challenges with resilience and faith, and she celebrated its joys with open arms. Her love will continue to guide us and live on in the countless lives she touched. She will be deeply missed but never forgotten. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Mayo Clinic or St. Jude's.
